Weekend Photo BLAST.

I had such a great productive weekend! I love when that happens. Even though the winter is really starting to wear on me and everyone else in Chicago, spring and summer are right around the corner (I just know it!). Let’s see. I have really been having a blast at the gym – I know right I hate to be one of ‘those’ people, but since I’ve regularly ventured back at the beginning of the year, I have seen major changes in toning. I haven’t lost anymore weight, but I can definitely tell that the gym has begun to tone everything. I’m obsessed with before and afters so here’s one of my lifestyle/physical change from July 2013 to March 2014. 7 Months.

Before July 2013 at 195. After March 2014 at 160.

Then I have been dying to try this small Chicago Diner chain since I moved here, but no one ever wants to go. Saturday after my run, I decided just to check it out myself and I am so happy I did! The Golden Nugget reminded me of the diners that I grew up eating in with my grandma and grandpa. I got the Steak Omelette which was just perfect. I know Chicago has any kind of eatery you could imagine, but I’m cheap as hell and sometimes picky as in I have specific cravings so this place will do just fine by me in the future.

Then came the time to touch up my hair – I had been getting it done, but things changed so I’m back in the saddle with my cheveux. I think it came out well. There is a slight dark band about two inches out I’ll have to address since a bleach shampoo cap didn’t even touch it, but overall I revived the red perfectly.

on the left before, middle during/post bleach cap, right the finished product.

Then I went ahead and started my chest plate.

Just kidding – obviously they are fake tattoos!

Then because I’m becoming the queen of cheapskates I went to Aldi, Five Below, and a clothes shop Discovery. I’m going to start shopping only at thrift store here in the near future, because I’m over new-consuming, but my final hoorah at Discovery was great! I got two more tanks not pictured for a total of $27 so a week’s worth of new tops/a dress. Not too shabby.

Then of course…..

Sigh. Monday. Blerg.

Blue Hair Blues?

I’m currently debating my next move in the always important hair ‘aspect’ of my life.  For friends and family that have seen me through my pre-Aveda and Aveda Salon years, I’ve had a load of different colors.  Well I’ve generally had super dark hair (colored since my late teens to hide that pesky light blonde that tries to grow from my scalp), but mixed it up with bold panels whether certain colors were intentional or not is not up for discussion here.

My ‘Gray’ Hair.  Really a level 7-8 and toned blue/green within an inch of its life plus sprayed with white powder.

My current ‘seafoam/blonde’ panels.  Last color extracted/bleached/color extracted/bleached again and then colored in February… not too shabby. HA!

If i could stand using another whole kit of Pravana Color Extractor and spending an entire day hovering over the bathroom sink and mirror with my arms above my head I would try for this look:

— but that is not going to happen.  Why? Well for one I don’t have the patience or dexterity to finish this look the way I would be happy with it, two, my man would not walk next to me in public, and three…. I’ll explain now.

The reason why I’m having such a hard time figuring this next ‘trivial hair’ step out is because it ultimately ‘ends’ a certain part of my life.  You see, a ‘big-girl’ job that will probably not support bright, bizarre, or purple and blue hair is on the horizon.  I guess it’s still unknown what environment my future company will have (fingers crossed it allows exposed tattoos and blue hair), but I’m not counting on it – especially if I snag a consulting job and meet with actual clients.  Sigh – I know I have to just cover up my blue panels at some point this summer – they are so dull right now and recoloring them would only recolor our shower/bath tub blue… believe me I still have a lot of scrubbing to do before that tub is ‘white’ again!

But – I can’t or won’t be sad for very long about going more ‘natural’ with hair, because there are loads of great color patterns and colors that will look just as neat if not better and brighter.

Obviously the cut is extreme, but with panels this color combo would be quite lovely.

And I won’t lie – simple all over jet black is always classic.

Perhaps a whole new hobby also is waiting in the wings, because I’ve discovered several Etsy sellers that make and sell very affordable wigs in all sorts of colors.  Although I’ve never really been into hair pieces or wigs, it might be the only way I can have those bright colors while having a career – or until I retire and finally become a little blue haired lady.

I plan on doing several fun coloring techniques on some of my cousins – I’m just waiting for senior photos to be done and then I’ll post a tutorial here.
